What To Expect
Day 1: Design and Epoxy Pouring Saturday 9AM-11AM
- Students will be introduced to woodworking and epoxy resin techniques to create unique chess boards.
- Students will understand safety precautions, materials, and basic woodworking processes.
- Safety First!
~Discuss appropriate PPE and safe handling of materials and equipment.
- Material Selection (This is where your imagination can run wild!)
~Wood species selection and grain orientation
~CA Glue, Epoxy, and Pigment selection
- Constructing and sealing a chess board form
- How to level and layout squares to prepare for pouring epoxy
- Properly mixing and pouring epoxy
Day 2: Shaping, Sanding, and Finishing Next Saturday 9AM-11AM
- Students will learn how to refine their chess board by shaping, sanding, and finishing the project.
- Safety First!
~ Discuss appropriate PPE and safe handling of materials and equipment.
- Techniques for initial flattening/removal of excess epoxy
- Edge router profiles
- Proper Sanding Techniques
- Types and application of different finishes.
